Did ya notice the following:

1. I have yet to see the new G5s promoted on Apple's home page - not even in the sub-level squares on the bottom third of the page, let alone the masthead. Edit: Okay Wanker's right, point withdrawn.

2. The Performance section of the Power Mac sub-site is gone, and now the benchmarks that have replaced it do not offer comparisons with PCs. (The previous page is still online, for now, however.) Isn't that omission convenient?

3. There is no point three. . . .

You'd think Apple would crow about its dual core accomplishments, which appear to be very competitive with PC offerings. It would seem that Apple does not wish to glorify these machines. Could it be that they are destined to be replaced with inferior Intel garbage?

Reload the page. I've already seen the dual-core G5s advertised several times, but only as a sub-level square on the bottom third of the page.

Soon enough there will be 3rd party benchmarks to see how dualcore PPC970 and dualcore AMD64 compare.

I can see why Apple didn't post them. They can't make x86 look bad, and they can't make PPC look bad.

From what I've heard, they really aren't much faster than before, so maybe that's why they aren't posting thm.

Well, what I find funniest is that the competition in the benchmark graphs for the new Power Macs isn't x86 machines. No, it's... the Dual 1.42GHz G4.

Yes, scary.

The comparisons are mostly against the 2.7 actually. Yeah it's funny the Intels are not listed, but the dual 1.42 would make sense, since presumably there are gonna be a lot of people wanting to upgrade from the latest G4 to something better now.

i think it is sorta sad also that the homepage seems to revolve around the iPod.

2 years ago a 4 processor high end mac would have been the headliner.
