My Rev B iMacG4800 is now three years old, and I have to say it has been a fantastic machine for me. However, my needs have changed, and as I am now taking a lot of high res tiff photos (c.11mb a go) and getting more ambitious with Photoshop, some projects weighing in at over 200mb, the dear old iMac is showing its age. After being infuriated at getting the Rev cycle wrong on my G3/G4 upgrade - A 600mhz, 15'' screen; B 800mhz 17'' screen; C 1,25ghz, 20'' screen - I resolved to wait for the Rev C G5 iMac as its replacement. However, not only was the speed bump disappointing (pathetic really) I don't want a webcam, Photobooth looks like a nice but limited bit of $10 shareware and I can't see that I would ever use FrontRow. It seems to me that the Apple strategy is to place the iMac more firmly in the 'consumer' range (possibly with a view to 'switchers' upgrading from the mini) and widening the gap between it and the PM. Whereas the G4 iMac was a reasonable alternative to the PMs then available, I don't see that I now have any choice other than to upgrade to a PM.
