Hey there. Newbie here, I've been browsing these forums for a while and i finally decided to sign up.

I do have a question though.

I've had an 17" iMac since last christmas, its a great machine and i really like it but the combo drive makes excessive noise when its reading cd's. its like a loud humming noise. also, when i remove the disks, they are very hot to the touch. Has anyone heard of or had this same problem? What should be done to remedy it?

I used an iMac 17" Abient Light Sensor and all the CDs and DVDs that I removed were hot to the touch. I think that's fine. Also, it was quite noisy as well. So I think those are both fine.

Not desirable traits to be sure, though.

I have had a loud humming before. But it happens very infrequently and I could only think that the disk is some how just spinning incorrectly and causing the disk to vibrate. As I would eject the disk insert it again and no humming? But as for it getting hot I have always had this providing the disk has been in the machine for a while.
