Hi,

After playing around with my new iMac tonight I came to try out the remote and nothing happens! The battery is in there and the remote is not disabled in the security preferences. I really don't wanna send this mac back after just getting it like this! Anyone got any ideas?!

You cannot unpair it unless its paired, and yes i've tried pairing it and its not worked.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302549

That article suggests using a home video cam to see if the remote is working. Apparantly infrared is visible to camcorders or digital cameras. Point the remote in front of a digicam and press a button, you should see it blinking. I just tried this trick using my VCR remote... ironically infrared shows up as blue on my camera.

Right I have a digital tv adaptor for my mac and that blinks when you use the remote next to it! So im guessing now that its the computer and not the remote! even worse right?!

Ofcourse in His case He could just use the built in iSight for that test.

Would suck if the first batch of Rev. C iMacs had faulty IR receivers.

Uh Oh, my new IMAC is doing the same thing. Apple sent me a new remote but that did not help. They are currently researching the problem.

Just to make sure: the sensor on the iMac is behind the Apple logo (not the iSight) - you didn't put anything in front of it, did you?

I've been having sporadic difficulty getting Front Row to launch via the remote. Otherwise it works properly; I can raise/lower volume, change tracks no problem. I just installed the 1.01 update for Front Row and I have only been able to get it to launch one now...

I sometimes had problems launching Front Row with the remote... I would have to push the menu button a few times. After the update, so far so good, it launches in one button push.

I find that it works better with a really quick click and release on the menu button instead of holding it down. At first, I thought it wasn't working but with this quick click, it always comes on right away.

Mine works fine, I just have to hold down the menu button for a few seconds or hit it a few times before it kicks in, but after that it's fine. When I first got it I thought it didn't work, but it just takes a second.

Try holding it down. That's what I usually have to do. And make sure you aim it at the Apple Logo (the infared reciever is behind the logo).

Mine works sometimes but usually it does nothing - no matter how long I hold down the buttons.
I've been sent a replacement by apple which didn't help so I am at a loss to work it out.

I did call applecare, they replaced the remote but still no joy. Spoke to them again yesterday after my airport express broke and mentioned the remote again. They suggested resetting the SMU. I did this and it is working at the moment..... but I wont hold my breath!
