I've posted a few days ago about overheating power supply.

I saw it was pretty dirty so I blew some air in with a air spray can.

When I repluged and tried to start my dual 500 nothing happened.

No light, sound, fan, nothing. ??

Tried cuda, replaced Vcard, memory hard drives etc.

Now how can I tell if it's really the power supply (could still be the motherboard, no?) who failed?

Is that expensive? Ive already posted a wanted in the marketplace.

I've also notice a small unplug cable when I search the inide of the computer. It's coming from uner the board, near the processors and have a tiny connectors (with 4 or 5 slot). Is it normal that it is unplugged?

Thanks for the help guys.

P.S. Since I don't think I can live without a computer I've already ordered a 20" iMac. It will not come in before 11/9.

If I can repair the GigE I might cancel the order. I fear that repairs from a specialized shop might cost more than the G4 value.

Yes. All Mac parts are expensive.

Try ordering a refurb iMac instead of a new one; it could ship sooner.

There's no refurb store in Canada.

Anyway do you know if there is a big speed difference? Went to barefeats but no results yet.

I just took a closer look at the new iMac and maybe I ordered too fast.

I don't care about frontrow and isight, HD not upgradable, poor video card and, again, not upgradable. Poor speed bump (0,1 ghz).

I like the screen and size of the thing though.

I wasn't supposed to change my computer before next year (diploma). But I miss playing some games (I'm still playing Warcraft 3 at low res/detail).

I still have 2 weeks to think about it (or repair my poor old /texan accent/ G4)

The difference between the new and old iMac G5s is features (iSight, FrontRow, etc), not speed (100Mhz, same video chip on PCIe, etc).

You can upgrade the harddrive. An iMac should do just fine for you.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

The old video card was a Radeon 9600, the new video card is an x600.

Indeed, and the performance is nearly identical. X600 is pretty much 9600 on PCIe, while X700 is the new midrange card.

Hi

A can of compressed air can sometimes squirt liquid out - this happened to me when I was spraying the imagazine of an Arri movie camera

It sounds to me you need to replace the power supply

as nice as the new iMacs are I would never go to another all-in-one

The mac started again after 5 days and I've done nothing!

I might still change it for Christmas, but I have time to think about it now.
