Hi,
I just received and installed a 1GB memory stick from OWC and the system profiler shows this:
Size: 1 GB
Type: DDR2 SDRAM
Speed: PC2-4200U-444
Status: OK

Does the 444 stand for the mhz?
Shouldn't the memory be 533 mhz?
How do I test to make sure it is the correct speed?

Thank you for your help.
P.S.

BTW It's my first MAC and its great!

I have the same problem - I bought some ram thinking it was the faster 533. I am taking it back, but wonder if there is really a difference.

444 refers to the timings (also called latency or CAS latency) for your RAM (usually expressed 4-4-4). Those timings are average/normal for your iMac. Some performance enthusiasts will spend obscene amounts of money for tiny performance gains from quicker timings.
PC2-4200 is 533Mhz DDR2.
You already know it's the correct speed.
