I've started almost completed my quest to go completely gigabit, does anyone know if my PM 2.0 DP ethernet card supports jumbo frames? Its the rev with 4 ram slot, without PCI-X slots. I just picked up a nice 16 port gigabit switch.

Googling shows that the new PowerMac does.

I've seen a few places that say the PM does not support it, but I want to make sure all Rev's don't. Also, any recommendations on gigabit cards that will work in the PowerMac that support jumbo frames?

Because of the way tooki, one of our admins, described the capability, I assume only the dual cores support jumbo frames.

No, the built-in ethernet controller on the PCI-X PowerMacs and Xserves do not support jumbo frames.
Jumbo frames are a new thing for Apple; they just added support for them in OSX 10.4.2.
If you have a PCI-X PowerMac you can get support fro jumbo frames with addin cards like these from Small Tree.

Are jumbo frames going to be important for full IPv6 support?

Their cheapest card is a 2 port gigE, @ $279 and it looks like a PCI-X card. Any single port, PCI and reasonably priced card?

No. Jumbo frames, theoretically at least, reduce the processor overhead when using gigabit ethernet by increasing the data portion of each packet, resulting in fewer packet headers that require inspecting (and routing).

The Xserve G5 also has ports with Jumbo Frame support. I think only one of the ports on the G4 Xserves have it.

But regardless, you realize that to use Jumbo Frames, every single device on the network must support them? That's a costly proposition that's likely not going to give you a big end benefit.
