Anybody try to install panther on one with a retail disc (the one that came with our 2.0Ghz G5' didn't work)?

Anyway to bind the two ethernet connections with just plain os x.4 (or os x.3 for that matter)?

The OS that came with the computer is typically the lowest version the mac will accept.

The Quad is a great example, there's some new hardware, chipsets that were not available when Panther was out. Apple has no desire to add that into an old OS that they don't sell anymore.

I tried booting a DC 2.3 from 10.3.9. No joy. The old DP 2.3's wouldn't boot from the Panther install CD, but they would boot from an installed copy. No such luck now.

heavyboots or any other DC owner: Can you share an internet connecting in through one ethernet port and out the other? And is there anything in the Network prefpane about link aggregation? Seems like it would be a feature they would include in OS X Client, though it was a Server feature before.

you don't need a DC mac to do this.......I have done it w/ my smurf box & a peecee

SAB......but you WILL need appropriate s/w & hdwr to do it, the feature is supported in 10.4 and probably earlier too....
