On the 20" iSight model, I read somewhere that there is optical or digital audio out. Can anyone tell me for sure what type of cable is required? Is it coax? Or is it optical? Any details would be good.

I couldn't find anything on apple's site about this. Also, if you could even show me a link to the correct cable that would be sweet. I want to buy one before my iMac get's here and hook it up to my Logitech 5.1 system.

You need a 3.5mm optical miniplug like this one:

I've got one of those cables connected to my H/K AVR3000 Dolby Digital Reciever but I only get stereo sound from the iMac!?!
Neither DVDs nor other movies with multichannel sound give me 5.1 audio!

I already tried Audio Midi Setup but the multichannel options are all greyed out - only stereo!

WHY??????
Can anybody tell me what I need?

1. Just to clarify: the clear plastic thing shown in the picture is a protective cap that you take off before inserting the plug!

2. Only DVDs and some games will give you Dolby Digital or DTS output. No other multichannel is possible from the optical output.

Now, you're not even getting Dolby-D or DTS pass-through, and that's because you need to tell DVD Player to skip Core Audio and pass the raw audio to optical. This is an option in the DVD Player preferences.

Ok, thanks Tooki! My mistake - seems like I tried a DVD without Dolby-D audio - another DVD worked!
But how does multichannel work in Quicktime then? That's still only stereo! I though Quicktime was able to do this now!?!
