All,

My parents have an old Summer 2001 iMac that is now slow as poo. Even simple tasks involve lots of waiting and listening to the hard drive click. The hard drive has been nearly full for several years, so I'm sure it's heavily fragmented. My plan is is to back up all the documents (most of the stuff in the User's folders), reformat the HD, reinstall OS and necessary apps, and then copy documents back over.

My question is this: I have a set of Panther CD's. Would it be better to install both 9.2.2 and 10.1 from the original iMac CD's, and then upgrade 10.1 to 10.3, or to leave 9.2.2 off completely, and install 10.3 onto a clean drive? Will there be a difference between the end results? Will I still be able to to boot into OS 9 if I don't install from the iMac CD's?

Thanks!
