Nvidia Website mentions the 7800 GTX 512mb PCI-X video card. In the specs sheet, under OS requirements, OS X 10.3 is mentioned. One question, can our PSU support this card, not sure if the PCI-X can supply enough 'juice' to run it.

I am currently using a FX 5500 64mb, planning to upgrade, the available 6800GT seems lame now as compared to the 7800GTX. Any advise guys?

Be sure not to confuse PCI-X with PCIe. The only Macs that can use this card are the new Dual-Core models. All of the older G5 models have AGP 8X slots. The best cards out are the ATI 850XT and the Nvidia 6800GT, or Ultra if you can find one.

NVIDIA doesn't currently make an AGP version of the 7800 GTX. And they have never made a PCI-X version of one... only PCI-Express... so there's no real danger of getting the wrong one.

That said, no idea whether the NVIDIA card would work in the Mac. Listing 10.3 as supported would be strange, as there is no shipping hardware available that can take a PCI-Express NVIDIA card and run OS X 10.3. I would wait for clarification, and probably not get that card right now.

I have a quad-core with a 7800 GT on order... 6-8 weeks shipping. Ouch. Good news is, the 30" I ordered along with it is coming in today. HELLO, DESKTOP REAL ESTATE!

In addition to it being the wrong slot type (PCIe instead of AGP or PCI-X), the only Mac compatible card in the 7800 series is the GT; not the GTX or the GTX 512MB (which should really be called the Ultra).

Thanks guys, will wait and see further down the road. Maybe the 7800GT sounds like a great option.

Catone, you got me green with envy......
