...and I'm scared! it takes a snooze about every 60sec. I can tap it back awake just for it to narcolept on me again.

I've tried Disk Repair, zap pram, and dump caches with Cocktail, etc. to no avail. During those tasks it would sleep and then I'd wake it so it could do a little repair at a time before snoozes. I also went into prefs and said; "NO SLEEPING!" ...but that didn't work.

Does it sleep because it get's too hot? My fan in noisy even after an air hose blew all the dust out.

I'd appreciate any thoughts. I'll bring my iBook to work in the morining and see if there's any advice. Thanks in advance.

Nevermind...Just reread your post, it doesn't seem like it is a Energy Saving issue. I would send it to apple or go to an apple store and ask them or even better, take your machine there...

This is a known issue. Basically, your G5 CPU is broken and is overheating. The OS is nice enough that it sleeps the computer instead of crashing so you can save your documents when you wake it.

Leave the machine to cool for a bit. Wake it up, close all apps and shut it down. Then take it in to the closest Apple Store and say that you have the Thermal Runaway problem. If you need to confirm this to yourself, open the console. You should see a warning about a Thermal Runaway.

Which iMac model do you have? From the sounds of it, it sounds like a Rev. A iMac G5 - with either a 1.6/1.8GHz processor and a 17" screen, or a 1.8Ghz processor and a 20" screen.

Like P suggested, take it to the nearest Apple store nearest you if possible. It sounds like it's overheating; you might have some bulging capacitors in the mix as well.

Good luck!
