How can I format a pc hard drive to work in my G4. I tried to erase it, but is is a red only right now. So now I am trying to partition it through disc utility as one partition and use it as extra space. It has been stuck on "creating partition map" for about an hour now????? Please help.

Sounds like something might be wrong with the hard drive itself.

It does seem to be a bad harddrive but:

Are jumpers set correctly (Cable select) instead of master/slave?
There are some other jumper settings as well look on the manufacturers website for info

Better erase the whole HD than just reformat a partition
