Hi all,

Am thinking about getting a photo editing platform based on the power mac G5...I really like that chip compared with any of intel's offerings so far. I am currently running photoshop CS1, and am hoping to get the latest CS and aperture for the new platform. The worry that I have is - I am hoping to have the Mac be up to speed for maybe at least 5 years ideally, and with the upcoming intel change - I am worried that I would have to upgrade in ~ 2 yrs or less if Aperture or Photoshop becomes intel only. Has there been previous discussion/thoughts on this matter here? If someone could point me in that direction or give any insight into this I would appreciate it very muchl,

Thanks,

Tyler

Buy a quad and you'll be fine for more than 2 years. Adobe might be an asshat and drop support in a couple years, but you can always use your current version of Photoshop. I'm sure Apple will continue to support the PPC Macs with Aperature for years to come.

It's safe to say that developers using Apple's tools will be producing universal binaries for some time to come. The transition from 68k to PPC provides some experience to base that on. I bought a 68k machine in early 1994, right as the first PPCs were hitting the market. I stayed with it until the G3s came out in late 1997, without too many difficulties. Did I want a newer, faster machine? You bet, but that's just how things are.
