Hi, I just unpacked my dad's G5 iMac1.8 refurb and it boots to command line then OSX, which auto launches some system tests. I take it this as an accident on apples part.
I went to simply reinstall OSX that it came with but it still boots and lists command line stuff, then boots the cd but when I go to install I only get an option of "MaxDisk" which is onlu 12.0 GB. The main HD is not listed.
How do I get this thing going? Any help is appreciated!
thanks.

OK, I got it booted to OSX and killed to diagnostic stuff before it got a chance to take over. I see the HD is there in Disk Util. With 3 partitions - "disk0s3", "MaxDisk" (the only one not grayed out) and "disk0s5". How can I just remopve these and format this thing?

It sounds like it came from an Apple retail store. They use partitions.

You might need to reset your Open Firmware settings.
1. Shut down the computer
2. Start computer up holding down Command + Option + O + F
3. A screen comes up with a command prompt
4. At the prompt type in "reset-nvram" (without the quotes) and hit the return key
5. At the prompt type "reset-all" (without the quotes) and hit the return key. The machine will reboot
