I checked System Profiler on the Super Drive in my new Dual-core G5. This is what it shows:

HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B

When I Googled GWA-4165B I get lots of hits indicating that this is a model number for a drive made by LG, although a search of the LG web site doesn't turn up anything on that model number.

By the way, the new G5 replaced a G4 Sawtooth. Considering the G4 is over 5 years old, I should not be too amazed at how much faster the G5 is. But the speed is amazing!

It's an OEM-only drive from LG. Shame you didn't get the Pioneer.

Wow, upgrading from a 233 mhz iMac to this will be like going from a Yugo to
driving a Audi TT or the like. Whiplash!

The funny thing is, when I sometimes go from my dual 2.5 to my single 400 G4
tower it's UNREAL how slow it seems now. Even my wife's single G4 iMac 1.25
ghz machine is a little poky now. I guess I'm completely spoiled.
