So I persuaded my roomate to buy a new 17" iMac with the isight in it.
Upon taking it out of the box, a CD ejected itself out of the machine. He described it as a shiny silver CD with few words on it and an Apple logo.
The LCD display has a wierd green verticle line near the right side. Also, it is now not ejecting a CD that I put in it. It also has slight signs of wear. I think Apple Store Woodfield IL may have slipped him a demo machine...
Anyway, my main problem is getting my CD out before he takes it in. I really want it, but it won't come out. It appears on the desktop, and I click eject, and the drive makes noises like its trying to eject, but no CD comes out, and then it reappears on the desktop again. What can I do to get it out?

Old trick: Try rebooting and holding down the mouse button as the machine powers on.

I read somewhere that you need to help the cd on its way. By using a tool of sorts. I know this is not much help. The guy I read about had a similar problem and he used a pin or something. I think the cd-drive has misplaced itself so that the cd hits the plastic on its way out the drive and thus reappearing on the desktop.

you could also push against the cd while holding the eject button to give the spring a lil nudge . . . hope that works!

I would suggest not worrying about the CD and taking the machine back!

If Open Firmware couldn't eject it then I'm not sure what else to suggest, drive must be bad...that's not good..

I see no reason to screw around with it. Explain the situation to Apple and have them replace it.

I have purchased several machines from that store.
Never a issue. One had to be returned (power book) for faulty Video card, but that was after a month of use.
Besides, every new machine you buy there is sealed, so I dont think it was the store that did it.
But thats my .02
Good luck with your CD

I had this problem as well (and also my two brothers >_>).
They brought it in and got their drive replaced.
What I did was, I've read it somewhere, help the CD to come out.
Use something like a business card, and put it in the drive in the middle. Then push the eject button and gradually move your card upwards while the CD comes out. It worked with me after a couple of times.
