I custom ordered my G5 a few years ago (original dual 2) and got the Maxtor 250gig 6Y250M0 in it. There has always been an issue of showing "S.M.A.R.T Status: Not Supported" 95% of the time. It has always done this from (10.3.0 - 10.4.3) and I'm just getting annoyed.
Does anyone else have this issue? Am I being ultra-picky bring it into Apple for my AppleCare? They might laugh at me....

Ultra-picky? No way. New hardware should not be faulty.

But is it faulty or are all 250gig HDs that shipped with the G5s having the same issue?

Only displaying the S.M.A.R.T. status 5% of the time is faulty in my book. Not sure if it's a drive or controller issue.

My 300gig I added myself always shows "Verified"... so it must be the hard drive.
I realllly don' want to haul my G5 in there in the cold. I wish I could call Apple and they send me one.
I'm getting sick of paying for taxies to take this thing in.

If you live outside (or is it inside?) a certain distance from an Apple Store they'll send someone to fix it. A friend of mine in Texas had his fixed onsite. I think it's worth calling AppleCare to see if they'll send someone out.

I live a mile from a major Apple Store. My roommate even works there. I really doubt they'll send someone out :-/ They never offered before.
