Hey guys, I just noticed this lately and it's starting to bug me. Upon inserting any CD or DVD disc into the DVD drive in my DP G5 (Pioneer drive) and commencing playback, the drive begins whirring very loudly, virtually drowning out the speakers. Now playback is fine, except that the drive is horribly loud! I'm not sure if it's always been like this or not but I'm almost certain that if it was I would have noitced it prior to now.
Any ideas? Suggestions?
Thanks all!~
Mark

By comparison, I just replaced my stock Pioneer DVR-117 with a Pioneer DVR-110D and the 110D is *much* quieter. It's not silent, but it's a different tone of noise and doesn't drown out the quiet parts of movies any more

My DVR-110D (in an external case) isn't what I would call quiet (really, what 48x CD/16x DVD drive is?) but I wouldn't call it noisy either.

mine (sony, came with DP G5 2.0), was very silent until I flashed the firmware and speed it up...
Now it's very noisy, but strangely, when reading DVDs is very silent, almost no sound.
