I was just wondering . . . . has anyone recorded off the iSight? how do you do it? 3rd Party Software? I can't find it in the applications anywhere. i was thinking of making one of those lip-syncing videos . . .

Open iMovie, iSight should be listed under the camera; like so:

My god, I just watched that happen in south park maybe 10 minutes ago.
Anyway, there are plenty of other apps out there that you can use to record video with. This is $15 shareware, but it has some nice features. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12523 Motion detection being one of them.

This isn't free but this is a pretty good software developer:
http://www.ecamm.com/mac/conferencerecorder/
Also, are you guys sure you can record with QuickTime Pro using the INTERNAL built-in iSight?

iMovie HD recognizes the iSight, lists it, and allows recording from it. I'm using the version from ILife 6/ Tiger 10..4.4 / Powerbook 15" with a standard iSight.

Correct, but it does not list the internal iSight as its USB

Upgrade to iMovie HD ... I mean if you are going to make some geeky movie, iMovie will give you all sorts of ways to geek it up to the max.

Just a quick fact, I was reading the iMac Core Duo's manual, and it states that the internal isight in it WILL work with iMovie to capture - so either they have enabled the use of a USB isight in iMovie 6, or else the new iSight in the intel macs are firewire. Here is the quote from the manual:
Using Your iSight Camera with iMovie HD
You can capture live video from your built-in iSight camera directly into iMovie HD.
To capture live video:
1) Open iMovie HD by clicking its icon in the Dock (or choose Applications > iMovie HD).
2) Click the mode switch to set iMovie HD to built-in camera mode.
3) Click the camera icon to the left of the mode switch and choose Built-in iSight from the
pop-up menu.
4) Click the “Record With iSight” button in the iMovie monitor to begin recording.
The video you see in the iMovie monitor is recorded as a clip in the iMovie Clips pane.
5) Click the “Record With iSight” button again to stop recording.
You can record video as long as your iMac has enough disk space to hold it.
More information about iMovie HD is available in Mac Help. Choose Help > Mac Help,
then choose Library > iMovie HD Help from the menu bar.

Its iLife 6 that makes the change. With iMovie6 you can use the built in iSight in both the intel and late model G5 iMacs to record directly into iMovie.
If you don't want to move to iLife 6 there is a "workaround" available for iMovie 5 if you have a FW equipt DV camera (though I guess most people who do won't be using their iSight much for such purposes).
Hook up the DV camera and turn it on, as if you were going to import video to your computer. Make sure you're in the import video / camera mode in iMovie. Once it says the camera is connected, turn off or unplug the camera. In a couple of seconds, it will change to the built-in iSight to capture the video.
Cheers
Rod

You can capture live video from your iSight camera directly into iMovie HD. This is only true if you have a standalone iSight—the iSight built into an iMac G5 (iSight) is not able to capture video into iMovie.
Well that's ghey
