I'm wondering if anybody else is having this problem. ...
I'm having problems booting my new Mac... for the first few weeks everything was fine ... but for the last few of days it often takes 2 or 3 tries to boot to the desktop (it hangs during the boot process) and sometimes when it get there it freezes when I try to launch an app. Rebooting yet again usually solves the problem...
Yesterday after i got it booted it sounded like my disk drive was working for a long time after it was booting the computer was very slow and when i checked CPU usage was very high bit i was not running anything to cause that!
This evening I had to reboot 5 times before I was able to do anything .. and one time the fans kicked into high gear and sounded like a vacuum cleaner!
Once I got it going I opened Mail and checked my new eMails, opened Safari then left the computer for about a half hour and when I got back I had message on my screen saying I had to reboot!
When I got my Mac I immediately ran the full hardware test and it passed... Then I immediately added 2 GB of Crucial RAM and ran the full hardware and memory test yet again and everything passed...
So it should NOT be a RAM issue.
Has anybody else seen this type of thing and/or has any suggestions on how to fix it or isolate the problem?
Thanks
- karen

People are going to tell you to check your memory regardless. I say why bother? It's a brand new machine, just replace it if you are having that much trouble with it. I got a brand new 2.3DP at the end of August and after 3 days it completely died, would not boot at all. Took Apple a further 3 days until they were willing to admit it was in fact dead and they were responsible for a full replace.

Can you duplicate the problem after a fresh OS install?
Can you duplicate the problem with the aftermarket RAM removed?
Passing the hardware test only means it's not failing in the most egregious of ways.

it worked just fine for 2+ week with the RAM and Crucial is a quality supplier. This weekend I can try taking it out but I doubt that is the problem...
As for reinstalling the OS, unless i can do that with the DVD that came with the computer WITHOUT having to reinstall all my apps it would be an AWFULLY long task!
BTW I just realized the problem started after I installed Broadband Tuner...

Just ran Disk utility.. it says my internal Startup disk has a fatal error and i should back it up if it has not failed completely, then replace it ... YIKES!!!!!
I bought the Mac from Amazon... hopefully I can just take it to my local Apple Store and they will just replace the HD!
I have been using macs since the late 80s and this is the first time I've had a hardware problem .. never mind fora month old machine!
