Hey Guys,
I finally got my 20 inch iMac iSight today, after using the 17 inch iMac iSight for a month or so.
I am not sure if I have a defective screen or not, but for some reason the details on the brushed silver of the mac's application (Safari, Taskbar etc) are kind of washed out compared to the 17 inch. Its like it has too much brightness and no contrast. I tried calibrating the screen...it looks better now but still no details on the brushed silver...Any ideas?
Thanks,

You can try resetting the pram by pressing command+alt+p+r right after you hear the boot chime, and hold it pressed until you hear it a second time. If that doesn't solve the problem, you can start up from the installation cd that came with your machine, and see if the issue is the same there. If none of those things change the screen picture, I would have taken the machine to an AASP to have them look at it, and potentially set up a service for you.

Hey Bernt thanks for responding. I did, I did a full restore, and it is still the same. It looks better when I Calibrate but still, I can tell that it is defective. I purchased my computer from an online store which right now, has the 20" backordered till January, I don't wanna wait that long. I was thinking of taking it to an Apple Store. Do you think that they would exchange the computer for me? I didn't want to have it opened and fixed (I've had a problem like that before and my computer was never the same, something would always break), I would want it exchanged...Has someone had the same problem before and the Apple store replaced the item that you did not purchase from them?
PS: My DVD got stuck in my Superdrive and the computer does not eject it. This machine is obviously defective... Do you think the Apple Store would exhange for a new one? My computer is only 3-4 days old....

AppleStore wont replace the unit for you since you didn't bought it from Apple. The only thing the AppleStore can do for you is to look at the screen and set up a service if they find the screen faulty. To get a replacement you have to talk to the place you bought the machine, and since they are backordered, you could ask to get your money back and put in an order on AppleStore online.

I believe that is incorrect. When you go to an Apple Store you are dealing with Apple directly. It doesn't matter where you bought the machine, if it is faulty, they have to fix it. In New Zealand I can take a computer bought anywhere (including the US) to an Apple reseller. They will fix it and sort out the costs with Apple if it is still under warranty. I would assume the case is similar in the US.

It's a big difference between *fixing* and *replacing*... To get a machine replaced you have to go the point of purchase, to get something fixed (meaning changing parts etc.) you have to go to an Apple Authorised Service Provider or to an official AppleStore. A normal reseller is not allowed to do service on an Apple product, unless they also happen to be an AASP.
