Hey guys....I am not familiar with Mac Games, but I am looking for a game with awesome graphics that would work pretty smoothly with a ATI Radeon X600 XT with 128MB DDR video memory. I have noticed that Macs do not have a big selection of games, like PCS do. Is Doom 3 a good game and nice graphics?
Any opinion will be appreciated.

Doom 3 is alright, but the performance of the Mac port isn't good (look at the PM G5/2.0 9600XT score for the closest comparison).

Halo, UT2005, and Quake 3 are also popular.

I tried Doom, but didn't like it much. I guess i'll just leave the gaming to my xbox!

Call to Duty and Medal of Honor are old..but run flawlessly at max res. Good gameplay for the cheap $$ you will spend on old games.

Doom was OK but I thought it was impossibly difficult so after about 10 minutes, I used god mode and started chainsawing everything. Its still took me a week to finish the game though. Excellent horror experience - the best I've seen in a game - but ultimately mindless anarchy.

For a more involving adventure, I'd go for Halo. Deus Ex is still good but it only runs under classic.

Definitely get LEGO Star Wars, Jedi Outcast & academy (former was better IMO), Red Faction and XIII!!!

DO NOT get True Crime Streets of LA!!!

There's also, The Incredibles, Rainbow Six 3, Splinter Cell (good one), Spider-man 2, Myst IV (if you're into puzzle games), 007 Nightfire (decent Bond game - I played it on the PS2), Unreal Tournament 2004, Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness (not great), Medal of Honour games, Return to Castle Wolfenstein (great game), Tony Hawk 4, No one lives forever (average), bloodrayne (crap), Max Payne (quite good), Clive Barker's Undying (crap), 4x4 evolution (crap), American McGee's Alice (I liked this game), Heavy Metal FAKK 2 (good game), Oni (also good), Cro Mag Rally (good fun but too short).

Check here for ratings and more games:

There still aren't enough games and they just don't play fast enough for Mac to be taken seriously as a gaming platform so I just get PS2 games now. I can also get them second hand.

When I can buy a PS2 for under £100 and games for £10 each, there's no reason to pay £30-40 for the same games and have them run slowly with all graphics off on my £450 Mac Mini.

Call of Duty plays awesome on my 2.0 20" iMac with all settings to max.

I am bummed about Stubbs The Zombie since it was highly anticipated. The game plays no where near as well Call of Duty. I have to turn down almost all the settings.

Forget the nay-sayers, Doom 3 is a great way to showcase your iMac and it's a lot of fun too. It has incredible graphics that will scare the crap out of you, supports wide screen resolutions, and runs smoother on your iMac than the Mac I had when I finished the game (1.4GHz G4 Tower). Just be sure to uncheck "shadows" in the video options. That's the main slowdown on the Mac version. Also, Doom 3 is a very different game than Quake. You're not constantly running or under attack, so fast frame rates aren't necessary to play the game IMHO. That's not to say the game doesn't get intense at times. But you won't need those ultra-high Quake3 type frame rates to enjoy this game.

Another game that would showcase your iMac is the "Faries" demo. It automatically supports wide screen modes (Doom/Quake need a small text file), has impressive graphics IMHO, and is very enjoyable and relaxing to play. The exact opposite of all the FPS games that I also enjoy

Finally, there's the "Crystal Cave Gold Christmas" demo. It's sort of like a classic miner/dig dug game with Santa Claus trying to find snow balls. Silly but cute. While it doesn't support wide screen aspect it will play full screen or in a window.

Free demos of the 3 games I mentioned (and a lot more) can be found at macgamefiles.com in the demos section. Look around a bit and you're sure to find other games you'd enjoy. Have fun
