I have B&W G3 upgraded to Sonnet G4 800, has been running fine for over a year. After I installed the latest security update the other day, my firewire bus doesn't recognize anything. It charges my ipod and powers my CDRW drive, but does not recognize them as drives. When I pull up the system profiler, Firewire bus shows no devices. Anybody seen this, ideas? Do I just need to buy a PCI card with firewire on it?

Please bear with me, I'm not that savy with some of this stuff. I downloaded the Combo Update, and installed it. It recognized my ipod but not my CDRW drive, I restarted, now it doesn't recognize either again. How do I repair permissions?

It died again. It was working, but after the next restart it lost it again. Somebody recommended that I run Cocktail, so I did, still no good. Do I need to do a clean install? I'm not UNIX savy enough to get into the logs and find out what's going on. I appreciate any other ideas you guys might have.
