This is my second 20" iMac. The first one had a bad video card. With this one, everything seems OK, but I noticed that the backlight is quite a bit uneven. I don't remember exactly what the backlight looked like on the previous machine, I guess I never noticed it. But since I have noticed the one on this computer I am guessing that the previous one was OK. What I am noticing when viewing a solid color is a large lightened "X" over the screen. I am also noticing a large lighter colored blob on the lower left side corner and a smaller one on the lower right corner when watching DVDs full screen when the lights are off and the dvd is displaying mostly black. Now, I guess this will be a minor problem, since I only see solid colors on the screen when it is booting.... and I don't watch many DVDs. I guess it just annoys me a lot. I also have a feeling that the Apple store would give me a hard time if I wanted to exchange it for yet another one.

Your display has definitely some problem. Sorry to hear that. Since this is a new machine, you could try to get it either replaced or repaired.
