I own a 1.42 gHz Mac Mini that came stock with the one stick of 512 megabytes of memory. I replaced it (myself) with a 1 gb stick. The memory worked fine for months and always registered as 1gb in system profiler. About a month ago, I noticed that system profiler now only displayed that I had 512mb of memory. I had not done anything to the memory in the time between. I have since then removed the memory, placed it back in, tried using the stock 512 stick again, resetting the bios by removing the battery for a short amount of time. Does anyone have any clues as to why this might happen, or any tips on how to fix it? Thank you so much .

What was reported when you swapped back in the original module? If your system still isn't working properly after that swap you're probably looking at a motherboard issue and should take it in for servicing.

It reported that it was 512 and I know that it acknowledged a change in ram because it came with pc3200 (and that's what system profiler said when i put back in the regular ram) where as the ram i replaced it with was pc2700 (which was displayed in system profiler)

Well, if the original RAM functioned normally then you know your replacement module is most likely bad. Do a warranty return and get a new module.

Maybe you got bad ram. It should at least have a year warranty. Most ram has a 5 year to lifetime warranty. Call the company and ask for a new one. Good luck.

PS - Let us know the name of the company and if it gives good customer support. Thanks
