As I had posted in a thread I purchased a Giga Designs dual 1.8upgrade. I went about installing it, updating the firmware (i then proceded to boot into OSX one last time after this, which it did fine), then installing the new processor, setting the dips, and booting. But it didnt boot, no boot sound, no video. So I assumed I may have imporperly flashed the new rom on, so Installed the orginal G4... but it still would not boot giving me the same issue. The system stays powered on but just sits Idle, if I boot it with no processor it will not power on. Im not sure If i "bricked" the motherboard, though it seems to be getting power, as my hub reports the mac connection, also the little red LED on the mobo is still on. Im not sure if theres anything I need to do (button tricks, etc) to get it to boot. One thing I thought that was strange is the hard drives dont seem to be spinning up on boot. any thoughts would be great!

With the computer off, press and hold the CUDA reset button on the motherboard for 10 seconds. Then try booting again. The CUDA switch is usually located near the battery.

When I hit CUDA, I usually remove the motherboard battery and disconnect the PSU from the board. Guarantees a full purge.

Beyond that, the most I can think of right now is trying to boot into Open Firmware. Hold down Command + Option + O + F while powering on. If you can get to the OF screen, type 'reset-nvram' and hit enter. Then 'reset-all' and enter.

And in regards to the 7447A Firmware patch, I'm assuming you remembered to hold down the Programmer's Button on the front of the machine as per the installation instructions?

Yes, the programmers button was held down, and I recieved a purple screen informing of the firmware upgrade and then it proceded to boot into OSX 30 seconds later.
I tried the commands, but nothing.
Also I noticed that the power buttons light does not stay lit anymore afte rpressing it. But the red light on the motherboard is still on, the fans all still spin up (even on my video card), and it will sit idle powered on doing nothing. No chime, no video, and unless the Hard Drives are unplugged from the IDE channel, they will not spin up. Any other suggestions?

Hmm...

This reminds me of a symptom I had with my most recent system that had a Dual 1.8 upgrade. Any time the system would enter a reboot, the power button light would not come on, I would get no video display and the hard drives would not spin up.

The solution to it was to hit the reset button, and from there everything would power on as normal.

Try that.

Hi there you can try this :

I had a problem where my Power MAc G5 1.8 ghz Duel Would Not Boot up So i

I Unplugged All the Ram & the Graphics Card & took the battery from the Motherboard, left it for a few mins then replaced the Battery, then reset the PMU, then reinstalled new memory & and the old graphics card then restarted the my MAC & it worked fine

Then i did some simple diagnostics to see what the problem was & it was the RAM Faulty or None Apple Im not sure ill have to test the ram in a PC

Laterulus i have a question about the firmware update. After the update, and you boot back into OSX, does the boot rom revision number change, or stay as it was? IE mine before the flash was: 4.2.5f1
Should this number have changed after the flash?
