All,

I'm fairly proficient when it comes to expanding capacity on machines, so I know for example that if I wanted to expand the Hard Drive capacity of my mac mini (currently 40GB) I can buy a firewire external drive fairly cheaply, and indeed that there are nicely designed ones which fit below the unit.

However, I was looking at online storage for a couple of reasons:

1) It costs nothing (some of them)
2) Useful to backup if a hard drive fails
3) I have a quick broadband connection.

So I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good free online storage system. I've conducted some google searches and there seem to be a few out there - I was just wondering if people have previous knowledge/ experience of these?

This looks ideal:

Any opinions?

Also - I've looked into paying to get the .mac account thing - but it seems that it's not worth the money? Peoples opinions on this?

Thanks all.

It's also great to have online storage because it's offsite. Fires, floods, earthquakes, meteorites etc. have a nasty tendency of not sparing the backup copy next to the computer.

Rumors say .mac is about to get updated and its capacity upped, due to a movie streaming feature. If so, maybe the new set of features will make it more appealing. I've got it, but don't really use the disk. It's been quite ok for small files every now and then.

Not a Mac mini topic (this topic is not specific to any model of Mac).
