Hey,

My parents purchased me a PowerMac G5 for Christmas.

They bought it via CDW, which isn't always the smartest decision, it came with an extra 512 megs RAM in a box, and since it already ships with 512, it should say that I have a Gig. I have upgraded RAM in a G5 before, for my Dad, who has an older Dual 2.0 Ghz. Bu with mine, I had some trouble, I installed it correctly, the way I know how, which is the same way the directions describe it, I did this before powering it up for the first time, and when it didn't detect the extra 512 completing it to 1Gb, I shut it down, and tried again. But it doesn't seem to be detecting it!

I dunno what I am doing wrong, a little help please.

Did you install two 256MB sticks or one 512MB stick? RAM in the G5s needs to be installed in pairs.

I don't see how the question is worth asking considering Apple shipped the machine with those two 256MB sticks, so they're obviously going to be identical.

However, it is worth noting that when installing RAM in pairs, you will want them to be identical.
