I have a Blue and White Power Mac G3. Whenever I connect the IDE cable to any CDROM drive, I lose power to that device. The power works when the cable is disconnected. I am installing a new 20 GB Hard drive and I cannot load an OS because the CD drive will not work. I've tried different CD Roms. Any suggestions?
Make sure you're putting it in the right way.
The red band on the cable should be on the side where the power cable/connector is (next to it) and if it still doesn't work, change the connector orientation on the motherboard.
