I just had the motherboard in my iMac G5 (2.0ghz, 20") replaced due to fried firewire and ethernet ports. Since I got the unit back, the fans kick on all the time and the CPU temp shoots up to 85degC while performing basic tasks. This never happened with the original motherboard.

I called Apple and they suggested that I need a thermal calibration. Anyone heard of this? I'm pretty pissed to have to bring the computer back to the shop again (waste of my time just becasue Apple didn't do the job right the first time, IMHO). Can I perform this myself? A google search didn't yield much info.

Thanks!

Apparently, the thermal calibration can only be done using special Apple software by a certifed Apple tech. If there's an Apple store near you, take it there. I hear it doesn't always work, so your machine may have to be replaced. There may be a copy of this software floating around in "certain" places if you want to look for it. I don't know where, so don't PM me asking for a URL.
