need to max this computer out without burning it up. it runs hot with 64MB. will it blow up with 512MB or 1024MB?

64 MB is actually the max this computer can take. If you add more, it's just gonna shut down on you. I'm at the apple store right now and that's what a genius just told me . . didn't want to take all the credit for that!

Complete nonsense. Slot-loading G3 iMacs can accept two 512MB PC100 RAM modules. RAM doesn't produce any appreciable amounts of heat -- most of the heat is from the CRT and power supply, some from the CPU, and a little tiny bit from the hard disk.

I have 1 GB in my 400 MHz DV and it's just fine.
