Right! Sorry for the confusion. So the LINE-IN PORT is not working in my computer then, cause I connected my iPod and I couldn't hear it in my speakers...Are there any steps I have to follow for it to work?

I know to make a mic work in the port you have to preamp it. I dont know if the same is true for an ipod

Well i plugged my iPod into my line in port on my iMac iSight, and no sound comes through the speakers, but when I use Audacity, a sound recording program, the recording comes out fine, and I can hear the audio that was being played on my iMac.
so now im curious, can anyone answer our question, how do you make the mac put the sound from the line in straight through into the output

You need to have a recording program (or similar) running. The Mac does not connect up the input and output by default.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

Is there no way to tell the mac to connect them up? in Audio MIDI setup utility, under audio devices and audio input, there is a little box that can be ticked that says 'Thru', which i assumed would connect up the line in to line out, but the box is greyed out.

You also may want to check in system preferences>sound, and choose line-in for sound input.
