In the last few months my duel 2g G5 has started doing some strange things...
First a note popped up when starting telling me that my date and time was not accurate and would cause trouble... from then on, whenever starting my computer up the date and time would be set to july 17th 1969...
Second... after a short time the CD/DVD drive stopped working properly... sometimes it wouldn't respond or open and other times it would work fine...
After repairing the disk and the permissions everything worked fine for a few days, but now I can't seem to get it to start up, and if I do the CD drive isn't working....

I would really appreciate some advice...

Any Ideas on what's up... and if there is something I should try?

Replace the battery on the motherboard. Having the date revert to 1969 is usually caused by a dead motherboard battery. A dead battery can also stop some Macs from cold-booting.

There is no obvious connection between a dead battery and the optical drive. Try reseating the cables to the drive.

Having a dead battery does very strange things to your Mac. Like not being able to find the boot drive (as was the case with my Beige G3).

Thanks for the help! I'll try a new battery.
