The internal DVD-RW drive in my Quicksilver is gasping its last breaths; sometimes I have to put a disc in a couple of times to get it to read it, and the tray tends to jam shut when there is not a disc in there. At this point I am going to just put it out of its misery and buy a new drive.
The big question is what drive to get. I intend to use the quicksilver for a few more years. I need to burn CDs & play DVDs, and I would like to be able to burn DVDs. I have also been thinking about getting a dual layer DVD burner. What drives do people recommend? Are there any that will not work in the quicksilver? What brands seem to be the best at the moment? I am fairly mad at the current Pioneer DVR-103PB that is failing on me (this is the 2nd one in this machine - the first was replaced under applecare), but I also hear a lot of good stuff about Pioneer. Any ideas?

The Pioneer DVR-110 (I think?) is pretty cheap, dual layer, and fully compatible with all of the iLife applications. I don't think there are any good statistics for long-term drive reliability, so I don't think one brand is really favored other the others in that sense.

It is looking like I will get the pioneer 110, but I am a little hesitant to get another pioneer after thie 103 died on me twice in 4 years (I really think that they should last at least 3 years, more like 5...). On the other hand, it was the 1st DVD-R, so maybe the have gotten better with the newer ones. Has anyone here had a lot of trouble with pioneer drives?

Pioneer DVR-110D. $40 - 45, supports all formats except DVD-RAM, fastest available burn speeds for DVDs, lets you set the booktype on DVD+R, etc.
Newegg has it with black or beige face plates (and loves you).
