Someone i know is going to buy a new pc in the next few months. All its realy going to be used for is surfing the internet and writing piano music. At the moment hes using a pc thats at least six years old. For varius reasons he doasnt like the program or computer he's using at the moment. I was wondering if i should suggest a imac as i always thought they were very good when it comes to writing music and they should be simple enougth for him to learn to use despite him using windos most his life. I would suggest an imac but i dont know that much about writing music on a computer as its not something ive used my computer for. One of the things he wants to be able to do is plug a electric piano into his computer.

What id realy like is to know what programs work well for this and also what type of keyboards can plug into a imac. Also should i get a G5 imac or a intel imac.
If anyone else uses there mac for this type of thing any advice would be good.

if you're going to use it as a communications device - email, internet, chat - and simple office work - word processor, spreadsheets, and presentations - then go for the G5, but if you want to dabble in video editing and photo stuff, go for the intel . . .

Since Garageband (and indeed iLife) comes with all new Macs, he will have
access to garage band.

If his electric piano is a MIDI instrument (has MIDI jacks) he can connect it
to the computer and use it to compose in garage band.

Any questions pm me, I'm pretty familiar with how to set all of this up.
