I am trying to burn a DVD using Disc Utility. The last DVD I burned took a while. When I went to check, the speed it set to 2X. that's the max speed that is available. this is on a 20" iMac G5 2.0Ghz with 1.5GB Ram. It's the one before the iSight iMac.

Any idea what might be causing this? I'm using FujiFilm DVD-R that is good to 16X.

Thanks,
Steve

I had the same problem when I had my iMac G5. It didn't matter what brand disk I used it would only burn at 2X. My iMac was the first released 17" 1.8GHz version with a 4X burner.

Let me guess, you guys have Superdrives right? Me too and it burns pretty much all my media at 2x despite being a 4x burner. It's a well know problem. There's even an online petition.

However, I recently bought a spindle of 30 Philips dvd-rs and they showed up as 8x in my powerbook. Superdrives are just really picky about media.

My Apple 8X media and Taiyo-Yuden 8X media show up as 8X. Ironically, my Taiyo-Yuden 4X media also shows up as 8X (but are unreliable at 8X).

Most of the 2nd tier brands I've tried show up at 2X. I think Fuji 8X showed up as 4X on my iMac, but I can't remember.
