Has Apple changed the start up chime of the new iMac from the chord it was?

No the chime does not change with model. The chime is a part of the software.

Thanks. I think the chime is right in the firmware. For years now it has been a G chord, I think. Earlier than that it was more like an F chord, or at least a half step difference. And while the chord in some Macs has sounded different, it was the same key.

But the firmware has changed!

If it's the same startup chime (and it is) it's because Apple decided not to change TOO much.

The startup chime has never been part of the software. It's in the boot ROM, which is why a Mac with no connected bootable disk can still chime to show that it passed the hardware tests.

I always thought it was an Fsharp to be honest.
