Hello, I have a 20GB HD as my main disk in my mac. Can I just install a second disk as Slave, drag all the folders over to it, remove the original disk, set the new one to Master, and go from there? Or am I better off re-installing the OS fresh?

Thanks.

You can do that if you are running OS 9 or older.

If you are running OS X, you will need to use something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to copy all your files to the new drive. After that, you can remove your old drive and set the new one to Master.

Ah I see. I think I'll just back my important files to the PC then do a fresh install of OSX. Thanks for the info!

You can use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to make an exact clone of your drive.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Both are shareware and both are worth the price. That said, I do believe that both will allow you to make a clone of your drive without buying.
Find CCC here:

Find SuperDuper here:

You're most welcome. I take it everything worked out ok then?

I'm going to swap the HD's tonight so I'll let you know. In any event I appreciate you taking the time to try and help me out.

Looking at the Carbon Copy Cloner 2.3 program I think I'll send them the five bucks. Seems like a powerful program.

It's well worth the $5. Make sure you check the "make bootable" box before you clone your drive.

Nice tip. Small things like that can lead to a ton of frustration.
