In your experience, how much better is the quality of the 20" display compared to the 17"?
I'm going to buy one of the new iMacs and, since in Europe the difference in price is something like 350€ (400$), I don't know if it's better for me to go with the cheaper one.

Thanks!

Go 20" if you do a lot of "work" (graphic design, video editing, surfing, chatting, emailing) at the same time. . . . . . if not . . get a 17in if you just need something to check your mail, surf and chat . . . . just my 2cts . . . once you get one though, come visit my site

I am faced with the same choice i am going with the 17" as i don't have the space for the 20", but really depending on what you do, if you have the money the 20" is the way to go

Thanks for your answers.
I'd also like to know if the 20" would run quieter (ie. with less fan noise) than the 17" (I was thinking that since its case is bigger it has more room for heat dissipation).

I can tell you that the 20" Intel Mac is much much quieter than the 17" Rev A iMac, but between 17/20 Intel Macs I can't comment except to say my hunch is that they're equally quiet.

Also, as for 20" display, it's very bright compared to the 17" Rev A that I had. I'm glad I went with the larger display even though I don't do graphic design.

The same thing happened to me. At first I had purchased the 17 inch iMac (which I was pretty happy with), until I went to the Apple store and saw one next to the other. The 17inch looks so much smaller (considering it is only 3 inches difference) that I started looking at my imac's screen as too small. So I finally sold and and purchased the 20 inch and I've been in love with it ever since. I cannot picture myself using a 17 inch monitor anymore.
Now the 20 inch is faster and you can upgrade your Video RAM to 256 MB. Also the screen is brighter. The 17 inch TFT display has a different manufacturer than the 20 inch.
If you have the money buy the 20 inch, but if you are asking yourself whether to go with a 17 or 20, save the money and get the 20 inch cuz you won't settle till you get the 20... telling you from experience....
