hi.

i've connected my g4 to my imac g3 (see sigs)

i have to connect to my imac from the g4 from classic mode. if i try to connect from os x, it cant find it.

when i am connected, file transfer is so slow and transfers about 0.1 mb every 5 secs.
now, if both coms are running ethernet appletalk at 100mb, and 1mb broadband users go 100kb/sec shouldnt get a faster transfer???

i cant connect to the g4 from my imac but my g4 can connect to the imac.

could someone please tell me how to make my g4 become the server? and connect without having to switch to classic?

and could someone tell me why this is so slow?

any help is cool.

You need either (1) a crossover cable rather than a cat5 cable.

Or, preferably - buy an 10/100 ethernet switch (sometimes as cheap as $20
depending on where you buy). Connect each machine to the switch and then
connect the switch to your router and you've got instant high speed networking.

It's not working because you're using a non-crossover cable between the
machines.

You do not need a crossover cable. Apple has supported auto-MDI-X for a few years now, so any ethernet cable will do.

A switch is probably your best option, IMHO.
