I have been deciding if I should by a iMac 20 inch or a Mac desktop for my next setup. My first thought was the imac 20 would be perfect because the included package with airport, bluetooth, size, etc, except the thought of having a desktop without a monitor attached to it like the Powermac seems to be better. Just in case something goes wrong with your monitor years after youve had it (after warranty). I have always liked the option of switching or choosing your own monitor. I would like hear from owners of the G5 imac to share how well their lcd screens have held up over the last year or more.

depends on how long you expect to be keeping the system. Personally, 3 years is longer than I will typically keep a system (at least as a primary machine)...and Applecare will ensure I have a fully functioning machine for that length of time.

I think the screen will last longer then the computer myself. I have a 20" iMac G5 and I'll be bummed when the computing power can't keep up with current software because the screen is excellent and I wouldn't want to lose the screen just because the computer behind it was obsolete.

If I were you I would go with separate computer and display. When the time comes to replace my iMac that's what I'm going to do.
