I'm thinking about replacing my computer with a G Mac Or a Power Mac because I heard that Macs are better then computers, Plus I'm getting bored with my computer and just wanna try something different.

I never used a Mac before so I was wondering if someone could please recommend a Mac that would be best suited for a average PC user. I'm not a movie producer or anything like that so I can live without all the fancy mumbo jumbo movie editing add ons.

Here are the two macks that I'm thinking about buying

Power Mac

Or a I Mac G5

Any info on Macs Vs computers (Linux) or what might need to be upgraded stuff such as Ram hard drive space etc will be appreciated very much.

Welcome to the exciting world of macintosh.

Remember that Macs and PC's do have their similarities and their differences, and when it comes to deciding which Mac to get, it's pretty much like deciding on a PC.

1) If you will be just surfing the web and simple office work, you need nothing special: Something with a G4 processor. ( Mac mini, PowerBook, iBook )

2) If you will be doing slight media orginization, ( small amounts of video editing, iTunes and iPod sync, garageband ) you can still use a G4, but if you want optimal performance you should go for the G5, (PowerMac and iMac)

3) And if you will be doing advanced media work, studio sound and video editing, you should only go with the G5, and preferibly with the PowerMac, because of the amount of upgrades it can handle VS any other Mac.

(You can upgrade RAM, HD's and just about anything you can in a PC in a Mac.)

Most of Mac users fall into the second category. And i'm pretty sure you do to. So for you, I would recommend the iMac G5 and the Mac mini. look into the speeds and RAM you will be needing.

And don't forget about some of the sick apps Apple can offer, but most of the things made by Apple can be overpriced.

Oh and one more thing, incase you havn't heard : If you ever have a program for Windows you need to run on a Mac, Apple and Microsoft make Virtual Pc for Mac, which is an emulator than can Windows Xp and 2k.

If your decision is between Mac OS and Linux you don't have to decide between pcs and Macs because Macs run linux (for example yellow dog).

But if you are bored with linux on a pc you will also be bored with liunx on a Mac. Exciting is that Mac OS combines the advantages of linux with the advantages of a great gui and well done applications.

But I agree, linux sucks application wise. Thats no difference between X86 linux and ppc linux.

Thus if you decide to buy a mac and don't like mac os you still have the freedom to run linux. It is stable, has great feature support (also for newer hardware) and runs quickly (quicker than mac os).

If you use a linux pc, I recommend to buy a really fast mac. Mac os is a little bit sluggish (gui-wise) if you are used to the speed of linux. But linux will run really quick - as stated before.

But stop - why are you bored? Do you use your computer to toy around with? Than Mac os might not be the right thing because it mainly works out of the box and you can concentrate on the things you want to do with your computer.
