hello masters,
have a doubt and nobody here seems to be able to resolve it. Do the Gigabit Ethernet and the Digital Audio G4's use the same power supply or not?
thanks

Differant, but GE can use DA supply. DA supply has a second power connector that carries additional 12VDC for the DA processor daughterboard.

GE 338 Watts/28VSB

DA 344 Watts/25VSB

so does a Sawtooth powersupply work in a gigabit dual processor machine?

Thanks,

Maybe it varies from machine to machine, but no DA I've ever seen has had the 4-pin 12V aux power cable implimented. There's a blank spot for it on the motherboard and you can see where it's supposed to go on the PCB but there's no header, just an empty spot where you could solder one. They didn't actually add the 4-pin aux power cable until the Quicksilvers. So yes, the DA and GE use the same power connector (or at least they have the same 22-pin physical connector, I don't know for certain that the pins map the same).

The Sawtooth power supply is completely different. It's a 20-pin connector with a pinout that is very similar to standard ATX (an ATX conversion would involve cutting and soldering just two wires).

Looking around various places, it seems the Quicksilver and Digital Audio could use the same powersupply, is that a correct?

Thanks,

Jeff

I am not the all knowledgeable master, but it seems they are different.
AGP has 20 pin connector. GigE and DA have 22 pin connector. Quicksilver, at least the first model, has 22 pin connector plus extra 4 pin connector

Quoted from a manual :
Power Supply Verification
To start up, the Power Mac G4 logic board requires a “trickle”
power of +5V for AGP and PCI models, +28V for Gigabit Ethernet/
Digital Audio models, or +25V for QuickSilver models.

Quicksilver model :
The four-pin connector (P4) supplies power to the
multiprocessor.
