I apologize if posted before. I am new to Mac. I took a 3G Maxtor Ext Drive from my old pc, wiped it clean of all files, and then tried to hook to MAC. It is appearing on the desktop, however, I am unable to write to it. I tried running the install disk that came with it, but to no avail. Is there a utility that I can run on that drive. I have a brand new Dual G5 with Tiger 10...OS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I called Apple and they could not help as not their hardware.

Heh. Do a spotlight search for "Disk Utility" - it should be in your Applications/Utilities folder.

You can format your disk from there. Make sure to leave it as the default (Mac OS Extended Journaled I believe), unless you're sure you're going to be using the disk across multiple operating systems.

It sounds like it is in NTFS from Windows. I believe that format will be read only. Follow jamil's directions and you'll be good.
