Can I burn DVDs on DVD+R discs or do I have to use DVD-R ones? I coulda sworn this could burn on both. I'm using disk utility, but it keeps saying the disk doesn't have enough space. I know that's not right cuz the image (.dmg or whatever I've tried) is less than 4.7Gb.

Is there a reason why my keyboard stops working every time after the computer goes to sleep? It's weird. The mouse works. Both are plugged into the same hub. If I pull out the USB plug and put it right back in, everything works. Not a big deal, but kinda annoying. What's strange is, when I press a key like "Enter" to take the computer out of sleep, it works. But, if I try to type anything, it doesn't.

The DVD burner in the Core Duo iMac supports DVD+R and DVD-R; but both formats can only hold 4.3GB, so your 4.7GB file is too big.

Actually, it's a 4.2Gb file. It's the Mac OS X install disc that came with the iMac.

When I stick the disc in and try and click "Make duplicate" I get an error message too. Is something wrong with my Mac or does "Make duplicate" mean something else?

I could be totally wrong but I think when you make duplicate, it is a command to duplicate whatever file you click on, and to duplicate it within the same directory, which in that case would be on the original disc which obviously would not work. You'd have better luck using a special extractor or ripping app or possibly even just dragging the disc to your hard drive, which should copy its contents....I could be a bit off here, but I think that's the jist of it.

In Disk Utility, after you have mounted the DVD, select File>New>Disk Image from (select the DVD...) to create a new image of the DVD. Then select the newly created image and burn it, not the disk.

Hmm, maybe it is too big to fit on a disc. I'm gonna try burning another DVD.

Has anyone ever made a backup copy of their Intel iMac's Install Discs?

To make a copy of the OSX disc u need a dual layer disc.
If you look at the file size its something like 4.2Gb...but its REALLY 4.7+,
so u need a dual layer DVD....
its so that people dont copy it....
but its possible to do!
use toast!
Peace!
