Ok check this out

In almost two days there hasn't been any movement, and my iMac is supposed to arrive on Friday. Is there something wrong? Is this normal?

My delivery location is Wisconsin.

How often do you track stuff on FedEx? Sometimes I find it doesn't get updated that often. My experience with FedEx has been that if they don't meet their projected delivery date, in those cases they exceed it (deliver it a day early). It could be en route and it just hasn't been updated. If it doesn't show up Friday...

I empathize though. I'll be chomping at the bit as soon as I get shipment notification of my macbook

Yeah, I've received a package before the delivery guys said it was even in the area. It finally got updated to "en route" around the time it came in.

I am also in Wisconsin.
I ordered mine two hours after Job's announced on the 10th. I had to change the order as the Apple Sales rep placed it for a PPC and not the Intel. So my order was updated on the 12th.
Mine left Shanghai, China on a Mon. Jan 16th at 11PM CDT and arrived at my door on Wed. Jan 18th at 10AM CDT.

it's normal. I usually have a couple days of nothing until it appears at my local FedEx. That usually happens late the night before delivery. I order a lot of stuff and this has always been the case. I wouldnt worry at all. It will be on your doorstep tomorrow

We came across this issue with almost all of use awaiting the first batch of iMacs (did the same thing when I was waiting for the 17 inch Powerbook).

FedEx's site rarely updates in real time. There is always a delay on any information, especially on personal deliveries (vs. corporate). More often than not FedEx doesn't update the tracking on your package until the day of arrival.

Yes. Same thing for me when I was awaiting my first Mac Mini back in the beginning of 2005. UPS does a MUCH better job at updating their online tracking information.

(but as long as I get the package, I don't really care all that much)

Agreed. I use UPS a lot when ordering gizmos from Amazon, and they do a wonderful job of tracking.

UPS is the best! Fedex should change their name to FedSlow

Yeah, at most FedEx will update their tracking once a day, sometime during the evening. What's worse (and this is true for UPS also), if you call them their reps are looking at the EXACT same thing.

Arrived in Oshkosh early this morning. It's midday and it doesn't say anything about being out for delivery like UPS does.

It's always hard to say with FedEx. I've had packagaes not update with the "out for delivery" twice before. Once it came anyway.. the other time it didnt come till the next day (Monday in this case) even though the estimated delivery date never changed.

Good luck!

Mine has gone from Shanghai, China to Anchorage, AK to Indianapolis, IN to Memphis, TN in the span of about 29 hours. (not sure why it didn't go from Indy to Chicago and then up to Wisconsin...perhaps Memphis is just a major hub it needs to pass through)

I've really yet to come across a situation where something's been delayed by the shipper, though I'm sure it happens. I for one don't really think that UPS is better than FedEx. I find FedEx sometimes delivers earlier than their estimated delivery date, whereas sometimes it appears that UPS just lets a package sit in the local warehouse for a day or 2 just so they don't have to deliver it early (maybe that's just me being extreme, but that's how it seems sometimes). In any case, most of the time FedEx seems snappier to me, even if they don't update the tracking status quite as much.

For the most part I check the tracking to see when scheduled delivery is, and don't check back until that day. I don't really watch each leg of the journey... but just watch, when my MacBook finally ships I'll be doing the exact same thing, checking every hour or so for updates, haha. So I can't blame you in this case.

It is the hub of hubs for FedEx as they are headquartered there.

When I lived there, FedEx planes used to pass so low over my apartment that you could clearly read the livery quite clearly, and you had a chance to do this every few minutes, all day and all night.

It never bothered me though, I used to sleep with the windows open in Spring. (though, being Memphis...only the upstairs windows )

I always keep a close eye on Apple deliveries from China. At least until they get past Indy. I had a Mac Mini help up in Indy for a week one time (US Customs). That SUCKED!

I also had a switch I bought from an Ebay'er in Canada get lost in Indy (that package was never recovered). Indy is just bad luck for me...so I like to see my packages at least get through there safely.

My uncle, who lives in Memphis, used to work for FedEx and could go anywhere in the country anytime just by hopping on one of their planes. I thought that was a pretty nice job perk.
