Anyone know what's wrong with my iMac? I've had it for less than a year. Since last Monday, I've experienced a variety of symptoms that have have gradually gotten worse over the next few days.

It started out as a couple of lines of pixel distortion, about a couple of inches long on startup. Then the fan started spinning loudly. In a matter of 3 days, each time I'd reboot, the graphic distortions would vary from a couple of lines, a box shape, overall dashes, to a full screen of what looked like static tv. The noisy fan also got worse from just an increase in volume to what sounded like an airplane taking off. It got to the point where I could no longer restart to my desktop.

I've attempted to do a repair disk 2x, an archive and install 2x, an apple hardware test 2x and an erase & install 2x - with the exception of the 2nd apple hardware test, all failed. Someone from apple customer service chat walked me through opening up my mac and reseating the hard drive, then had me do another apple hardware test, (this time it passed) and another complete erase & install. Everything went smoothly at first (this was Friday evening). Since then, the graphic pixel distortions have come back and are inceasing in frequency, and the fan went berserk on me once. I'm afraid it's all downhill from here again. What to do? Anyone experience the same thing or know what the heck's wrong with my iMac?

Is it a rev A? IIRC, the rev A's had large cooling problems, which *I think* effected the graphics in the iMacs

Sounds like the logic board or screen is going... call AppleCare.

Rev A are the old iMacs, right? This one's an iMac G5 20" that I bought about a year ago right before they released the one with the new OSX4 (grrr).

Logic board or screen? Ok, will do. Thanks. Is that a common thing to happen for a fairly new computer or did I just get a bad one?

No, rev A refers to the first iMac G5 model, which had serious cooling probs
