I can't be the only person out there with a Quad 2.5 having this problem (or maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket?)

Running 10.4.4, Quad 2.5, 30" display w/ NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500. This machine runs solid on Apple's 512MB DIMMs using virtual memory.

I am on my 3rd set of 2GB PC4200 ECC DIMMs (4GB total) from OWC. When I use their memory, I get Kernel panics or complete freezes. I've had 3 KPs in the last 50 minutes after installing the latest set of memory that OWC tested before they shipped it out.

Looks like I'm going to be biting it and going with Crucial. $600 for memory that others are charging $2000 did seem too good to be true.

Anybody got any ideas?

For the record, this is not the first time I bought memory from OWC and they have always been very good. They have shipped replacement DIMMs to me without hesitation with this new machine.

The error code is:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x00C3524C): Uncorrectable parity error detected in rank 0 [DIMM0/J6700, DIMM1/J6800] (MEAR0=0x03330A9C MEAR1=0x04000000 MESR=0x800017C3)

Since you have 8 RAM slots, why not buy 4x1GB ECC from Crucial for $436? Save a bit over $150 compared to the faulty 2x2GB from OWC, and you'd still have 4 slots available for future expansion to 12GB.
