I had this problem on my old Dual G4, and now I'm having it on the G5... We have a second drive (the original 250gb) in slot two, and the Raptor in slot one.. The drive seems to go to sleep or something, so when you go to access it or launch a file stored in it, there is (at times a good 10 seconds) delay when the file or drive responds..

Is there a way to disable this feature, there is nothing in OS X that I can see, is it hardware? or am I stuck? thanks..

There should be an option in Energy Saver to put hard drives to sleep. Sounds like you want it unchecked.

that's just it... it is. I can't figure out why it keeps doing it! Maybe this option is for the main drive and doesn't address a second or third drive.

I have the same problem with my new g5! Its annoying because with all this processing power, I'm still forced to wait for the harddrive to spin-up each time I want to save my work.
